DRC: The platform of revival churches in Congo mobilizes its faithful to support the project to change the Constitution

The debate surrounding a possible revision or amendment of the Constitution continues to generate reactions in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This time, revivalist churches have entered the discussion and openly declared their support for a new Constitution.

The president of the platform of religious denominations and revivalist churches, Évariste Ejiba Yamapia, announced that these religious communities will mobilize their followers in favor of changing the fundamental text currently in force in the DRC.

According to him, the current Constitution no longer meets the expectations of the Congolese people. He calls it a “constitution of belligerents,” asserting that it has never been truly accepted by the population.

“We are currently considering constitutional reforms… we need to see this Constitution changed because it was originally the belligerents’ decision, because it has already been revised once, and so we don’t see why we need to keep revising it,” declared Évariste Ejiba Yamapia in a video seen by LePotentiel.cd on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

This statement comes amid a political climate marked by increasingly heated debates surrounding a potential constitutional reform. Members of the presidential majority support the idea of changing the Constitution, arguing that certain provisions are hindering the functioning of institutions. However, this debate remains highly sensitive among the public and the political class. The opposition, as well as several civil society organizations, fear that such a reform would pave the way for a third term for President Félix Tshisekedi.
