The State Council of the Democratic Republic of the Congo ordered, this Friday, October 30, 2026, the final dissolution of the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD). This ruling follows a petition submitted by the Ministry of the Interior.

To justify this extreme measure, the high administrative court cited serious violations of the legislation governing political parties as well as threats to public order. The State Council notably relied on:

The proven involvement of several PPRD officials in an insurrectional enterprise.

Alleged links between the party’s moral authority, former President Joseph Kabila, and the AFC/M23 rebel movement (recently renamed the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation – FRN).

As a consequence of this court ruling, the PPRD immediately forfeits its status as a legally registered political organization and its legal existence throughout the national territory.
