Kinshasa: PPRD Headquarters Set Ablaze During Union Sacrée Rally

Political tensions flared in the Congolese capital this Monday, May 4, 2026. The national headquarters of the PPRD, the political party of former President Joseph Kabila, was targeted by acts of vandalism and arson on Sendwe Boulevard in the Kalamu commune.

Unrest on the Sidelines of the UDPS March

The incident occurred as supporters of the UDPS and the Union Sacrée marched to voice their support for U.S. sanctions against Joseph Kabila. These measures from Washington follow allegations that the former Head of State is supporting AFC/M23 rebels.

Key Highlights:

  • Vandalism: Viral videos on social media show individuals in white T-shirts storming the offices before the building was engulfed in flames.
  • Diplomatic Action: Following the demonstration, protesters marched to the United States Embassy to deliver a memorandum thanking the Donald Trump administration for the sanctions.

A Mobilization Led by the Ruling Coalition

The march was organized following a call from Augustin Kabuya, Secretary General of the UDPS, urging allies of the presidential platform to mobilize in large numbers.

“As allies from the very beginning, we felt it was our duty to respond to this call,” stated Jean-Pierre Lisanga Bonganga, coordinator of the Rassemblement des compagnons d’Étienne Tshisekedi, explaining the presence of his members in the procession.
