The climate of insecurity plaguing the Congolese capital has claimed another victim among the senior civil servants. An auditor and Director of Human Resources at the Mining Registry (CAMI) died on Monday, May 25, 2026, in Kinshasa, two days after being the target of a violent armed attack at his home.
A Nighttime Punitive Raid
The incident occurred on the night of Friday, May 22, around 10:00 p.m., on Udjidji Avenue in the Barumbu district. A gang of armed criminals forced their way into the property and then the residence of the CAMI official.
According to details provided by the mayor of the district, Christophe Lomami Lankoy, the assailants were clearly seeking a large sum of foreign currency. Not finding the loot they were looking for, the criminals opened fire on the director in his own room before fleeing.
Seriously wounded by gunfire, the victim was initially rushed to the Gombe General Referral Hospital (formerly Ngaliema Clinic). Despite receiving medical care, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries the following Monday.
The Mayor’s Call for Vigilance
This tragedy reignites the crucial debate on community safety in Kinshasa’s various neighborhoods. In response to this tragedy, the Barumbu municipal authority called on its residents to be more vigilant and to strengthen their collaboration with law enforcement.
While acknowledging the limitations faced by his services, Christophe Lomami Lankoy emphasized the duty of community solidarity:
“Anyone who feels a neighbor is threatened should call. We have police numbers and police stations nearby. Each of us must take responsibility.” Despite serious logistical problems, we routinely deploy motorcycles at night to respond quickly.
An investigation will determine the identity of the perpetrators of this crime, which has once again brought grief to the mining administration sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
