The Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni, has sparked a heated controversy by publishing a series of incendiary tweets targeting the former President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Joseph Kabila.
In his messages, Kainerugaba accused Kabila of allowing the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) to thrive in eastern DRC for 17 years, while hindering Uganda’s efforts to combat the armed group. “Kabila allowed the ADF to subsist in eastern DRC for 17 years. He never allowed us to act against them,” he stated, praising the current president, Félix Tshisekedi, for his increased cooperation. “H.E. Tshisekedi is much better than him in this regard.”
General Kainerugaba also expressed his unwavering support for Tshisekedi, whom he referred to as his “big brother,” and vowed to oppose any return of Kabila to power. “My big brother, H.E. Félix Tshisekedi, is the president of the DRC and I will support him as much as possible. I will not let Joseph Kabila become president of the DRC again! You can forget that,” he affirmed.
