The Bas-Uélé province in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo has once again been struck by armed group violence. During the night of April 3 to 4, 2026, the locality of Kpokpo (Ango territory) was targeted in a brutal raid by rebels from the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).
A Heavy Human and Material Toll
According to Dieudonné Dingbo Sasa, head of the Sasa chiefdom, the assessment of the attack is alarming:
Abductions: 13 children were taken by the attackers, including 9 girls and 4 boys.
Looting of Healthcare Facilities:The local health center was systematically ransacked. Medicines and medical equipment were carried away, leaving the local population with no means of emergency relief or medical care.
An Urgent Plea for Security
The traditional leader highlighted the insufficient military presence in this border region, which facilitates the movement of armed groups. He is calling on Congolese authorities to:
1. Urgent reinforcement of security measures in Ango.
2. Secure the borders against cross-border incursions by the LRA (Central African) and the NSFA (South Sudanese).
“There is nothing left to save lives in this village. We are stripped of everything,” lamented Dieudonné Dingbo Sasa, illustrating the distress of a population caught between insecurity and the absence of basic services.
This latest attack reignites the debate over the security of isolated areas in the Uélé region, where civilians remain the primary victims of transborder conflicts.
