Maï-Ndombe: Over 180 People Homeless After 45 Houses Collapse in Bolobo

At least 182 people have been left homeless since Monday in Mokele village, located in the Bolobo territory of Maï-Ndombe province, following heavy rainfall across the region. The severe weather caused 45 homes to collapse, plunging several families into severe distress.

According to local sources, the damage extends beyond residential homes. The only health center in Nsamwale village suffered significant structural damage, compromising access to medical care for the population. A school also collapsed under the force of the rains, disrupting educational activities in this part of the province.

Left without shelter, the affected families are spending their days and nights in precarious conditions while awaiting potential relief assistance. The destruction of basic social infrastructure has also raised concerns regarding local healthcare delivery and the continuation of children’s education.

In light of the extent of the disaster, local civil society has launched an urgent appeal to provincial and national authorities to deploy emergency assistance. Specifically, they are requesting humanitarian aid for the affected households and the swift rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure.
