Two women were shot dead on Tuesday, May 5, in Lubero, in separate incidents involving a soldier from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and a militiaman from the Wazalendo group.
The first case involves an FARDC soldier who shot his wife at point-blank range for unknown reasons. The victim’s body was discovered that morning, abandoned and covered in blood, in the village of Robinet. Local authorities, in collaboration with security services, have launched investigations to shed light on this murder.
A second case was recorded the same day in the Yambi Yaya neighborhood of Munguredjipa, a village located in the Bapere sector of the Baswagha chiefdom, also in the Lubero territory. A militiaman from the Wazalendo group also shot a woman, described as his concubine, at point-blank range for reasons that have not been officially established. The victim’s body was taken to the morgue at Munguredjipa General Hospital pending burial.
ACTUALITÉ.CD contacted the military administrator of the Lubero territory, Lieutenant Colonel Kiwewa Mitela Alain, who confirmed both incidents. He stated that the alleged perpetrators of these murders have been arrested and that legal proceedings are underway.
Furthermore, civil society in the Lubero territory has denounced and condemned human rights abuses committed against civilians by certain armed men in the region. It reports several documented cases of abuse over the past six months in the Lubero territory, notably involving Wazalendo militiamen.
