Since this past weekend, singer Rebo Tchulo has been making headlines in Kinshasa for reasons unrelated to her music. A viral video showing scenes of violence at her residence has triggered a chain reaction, involving local news, legal proceedings, and persistent rumors on social media.
The Facts: A Video of Violence Sparks Controversy
The trigger was footage filmed by a neighbor, showing a man being physically abused inside the artist’s property. Quickly shared, the video sparked outrage among some members of the public, who denounced it as a form of vigilante justice.
However, the artist’s entourage quickly issued a clarification. According to her assistant manager, Ezechiel Bwalo, the victim of the violence was not a waiter, as initially reported, but the singer’s personal driver.
The latter is suspected of stealing a bag containing valuables (jewelry, a luxury phone, a passport, and cash) during a film shoot on Tshatshi Boulevard.
The question of military involvement
The other point of contention concerns the presence of military personnel during the suspect’s arrest. The artist’s defense maintains that this intervention was not requested by Rebo Tchulo herself, but by the music video’s producer, who allegedly contacted an officer to help locate the fugitive.
It is on this specific point that the case appears to become more complicated from a legal standpoint. Persistent information, although not yet officially confirmed, indicates that the Kinshasa/Gombe Military Garrison Court is closely examining the case to determine the circumstances surrounding the use of force in this private dispute.
A climate of widespread rumors
Beyond the domestic incident, Rebo Tchulo is facing increased media pressure. Online, another controversy attempts to link the artist to a government minister, suggesting she is receiving protection. These allegations, lacking tangible evidence at this stage, are nevertheless fueling debate in the capital’s circles.
For the time being, the artist has not personally commented. This affair, which combines domestic insecurity and public image management, places the “Queen” in the spotlight, a media frenzy she would undoubtedly have preferred to avoid.
