Kabila’s Arrival in Goma: The Shadows of M23/AFC Over the DRC

The arrival of Joseph Kabila, former president of the DRC, in Goma is raising significant questions, coming shortly after his announcement of a return via the east of the country. This arrival is all the more intriguing given that the current president, Félix Tshisekedi, accuses Kabila of being the true instigator of the M23/AFC rebel movement, an accusation that adds an explosive political dimension to this trip.

According to sources, Kabila, who had been staying in South Africa for several days, arrived in Goma on Friday afternoon. Information relayed by some members of the AFC/M23 to the media even suggests that he may have transited through Rwanda and then Gisenyi to reach the city.

Since leaving power, Kabila has spent a significant portion of his time in South Africa, where he pursued studies, and has also resided in Zimbabwe.
