Joseph Kabila Summoned to the senate for a Working Session on the lifting of his Immunities

Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo – May 19, 2025 – Honorable Senator for Life, Joseph Kabila Kabange, has been officially invited to a working session by the Senate, according to a document dated May 19, 2025.

The invitation, signed by Sama Lukonde Kyenge Jean-Michel, President of the Senate, follows a requisition from the Auditor General at the High Military Court regarding the lifting of the former President’s parliamentary immunities and the authorization of potential prosecutions against him.

The summons, referenced N°…3/CAB/PDT/SENAT/SLK/DMO/PK/2025, specifies that this working session of the Special Commission will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM, in the International Conference Room of the People’s Palace in Kinshasa-Lingwala.

The invitation is based on articles 138, point 5 of the Constitution, as well as articles 196 and 224 of the Senate’s Internal Rules. These legal provisions frame the procedure related to the examination of requests for the lifting of parliamentary immunities.
This summons marks an important step in the follow-up of potential judicial cases involving the former Head of State, Joseph Kabila Kabange, who currently sits in the Senate as a Senator for Life.

The Special Commission will be tasked with examining the Auditor General’s requisition and formulating recommendations to the Senate regarding the follow-up to this request.
