After “Wake Up,” Koffi declares, “A collaboration with JB would be the second-best feature in Congolese music…”

During a recent television appearance on a local channel, Congolese musician Koffi Olomide, leader of the group Quartier Latin International, made a statement that caught the attention of many music lovers. The singer, author of nearly thirty hit songs, announced that a collaboration between himself and JB Mpiana Salvatore de la Patria, the charismatic leader of the Wenge clan and president of the group Wenge BCBG, is in the works and could be a landmark in Congolese music history.

“After ‘Wake Up,’ I think a collaboration with JB Mpiana would probably be the second-best feature in Congolese music,” he said.

This media appearance seems to have sparked even more interest, given that relations between these two iconic figures of Congolese music haven’t always been smooth. Despite this context, this statement reignites speculation about a possible artistic collaboration between the two artists, a partnership that would undoubtedly be highly anticipated by the public. Koffi’s album *Wake Up*, a collaboration with Papa Wemba released in 1998, is considered one of the albums that relaunched his international career and left its mark on Congolese rumba. Currently, Koffi is focused on preparations for his mega-concert celebrating his 70th birthday, scheduled for July 12, 2026, at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium.
