President Kagame Receives Faure Gnassingbé, New Mediator for the Congolese Conflict

Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé was received by Rwandan President Paul Kagame on April 21, 2025. This meeting follows Mr. Gnassingbé’s appointment by the African Union (AU) as mediator in the conflict between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Gnassingbé’s visit aims to reinforce his commitment to working with other partners to find a lasting solution to the conflict between Rwanda and the DRC. He succeeds João Lourenço, the President of Angola, who wished to focus on continent-wide programs. The AU approved this transition in early April 2025, and the AU General Assembly officially appointed Gnassingbé on April 12, 2025.
